Excursion to Sisimiut – The Town of Technical Education in Greenland – August 12-14, 2017 The http://www.uarctic.org/member-profiles/denmark/8459/arctic-technology-centre-technical-university-of-denmark is pleased to invite UArctic member representatives to participate in a 2-day excursion in Sisimiut, from Saturday August 12 to Monday August 14. The Sisimiut excursion will include presentations on science and cultural excursion, as well as local / historical visits, and social activity for all. Afterwards, participants can travel to Nuuk either by plane, or by passenger ship that will depart on Monday (11:00 AM) and arrival early on Tuesday (7:30 AM). Sisimiut has a population of 6000 inhabitants, and as the second largest town in Greenland it is well know for its strong position as a technical education centre. The town houses both ARTEK with its Arctic engineering education and its affiliated research activities, and the Tech College Greenland with a vocational technical school, a high school, and Greenland School of Minerals. The excursion is hosted by ARTEK and organized in collaboration with Qeqqata Kommunia (Qeqqata municipality) and Tech College Greenland, and as such will give participants insight into the collaboration, interdependency and derived synergy between these institutions; thus serving as an example on how the capacity of educational institutions can be strengthen in remote Arctic regions. Below you will find detailed information about the program, travel (to and from Sisimiut), and local accommodation options. Note: Due to limited availability and high demand, we recommend that participants make travel and accommodation reservations ASAP, and that they do so before registering online for the Council meeting (i.e. as the choice of accommodation in Sisimiut can determine certain cost options when registering).
Participant FeeThe fee to participate in the Pre-Council – Sisimiut Excursion is EUR 75.00, which includes all coffees breaks and lunches marked in the program, the local tour, museum entrance, transportation in Sisimiut, and the Festive Dinner on the 13th. The deadline for registration is Closed.
